Manipulated, tricked, brain washed, moving past a social media addiction. Let me conclude few points before we start .
Let me tell you my story, I was a big social media addict almost looking at my phone every 20 minutes in a loop and searched for new story in it, finally after a year of wasting my time on it, I realized that there are a lot more things to do in my real life as well. I have responsibilities to manage, studies, sports and all such stuff which could bring something better in me and secure my future rather than finding happiness in digitally manipulated social world where I merely had a stable stand. Leaving all that stuff, I’ve deleted all my applications which pursued me towards digital life and made me busy in some unnecessary stuff which I shouldn't cling on . Social media brings a negative impact on your real life, it diverts you from your own potential , people post their lives on it doing stuff they enjoy to do ,they are making you see them . All the benefit is their's and not yours, all you are giving them is your valuable time which you may use in some other productive stuff. All of my account exists but I deleted applications from my phone because my usage was out of control .
Now concluding all, let me also talk about “the bad parts of quitting social media”.
Social media gives you touch among your friends, fans, relatives and all the people whom you are connected with in real life. The most addictive platform which I found was Facebook . Keeping Facebook in my phone made me look to it all day. Now, when I don’t have it on my device anymore I won’t be able to check it and that will save a lot of time which I used to give in it earlier. I really love the interactions I've had experienced on Facebook and i genuinely miss that!
As a person, the value and response you get from people on social media regarding your work, doesn’t matter what you post on social media but you are actually able to listen to what people think about your work or what they like or doesn't like about your work . It kind of creates a web in which you get stuck according to the time you give in it.
So these were the bad parts of quitting social media, which I call "FOMO", fear of missing out. Fear of missing out what people are posting, fear of missing out what is happening in the virtual world, this is all why people can’t quit social media even if they try to, they are so much connected to it that they can’t imagine their life without it !
"FOMO" also creates a cycle, a loop which makes you more addicted towards the happenings on social media. Let me explain taking twitter,
it is such an amazing platform to know updates from all around the world which are genuine and true but everything needs to be in a limit.
The way twitter is indulging us to be on it's platform is like, you look at twitter and you read news, you close the app and you think about it, now you want to know more about it so you open twitter again, you read it and then you find another news and you read about it as well, later you close the app, you again want to know more about it so you again open the app and read about it, find another news and starts to read that. This thing goes on and on until you defenestrate your work, studies etc. or else take a beautiful decision of reducing it!
Now, let me tell you “the good part of quitting social media”.
So this all stands on what cost you give to social media and what value you get in return.
The cost, all the cost which you put in this game of gamble is your time, and what actually you get in return is a bit of information and lots and lots of noise.
Now what I mean from “noise” here is the information, photographs, videos, and all kinds of stuff which disturbs you mentally and doesn’t actually provide peace to your mental state.
The noise, about which I’m talking here is not what we only consume from social media but also this is what we give to social media as well, this all loop is created by us, we only post on social media, not the creators who do this ,all of this play is created by us. This whole loop is made up of two main characters, we the consumers or we the distributors, some of us make people consume and some of us just only consumes, the creators of such platforms are designing their platform as addictive as they can because "more the sweet, more ants will come". More the users will be, more the profit they gain.
What these sites do is, they count the DAU which is “daily active users” and the MAU which is “monthly active users” to be at success they need to get as many "daily active users" as they could to stay the most popular social media platform amongst all.
Hope this article somewhere helped you to understand this game and all i want to say at the end is, BE SOCIAL DON’T BE ON SOCIAL.
